The Guatemala News and Information Bureau (GNIB) and the Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA) invite you a benefit dinner and presentation featuring Dr. Giovanni B'atz', Visting Assistant Professor of social anthropology and New Mexico State Univeristy. Dr. B'atz' will discuss the historical roots of the displacement and migration of Indigenous Guatemalans to the U.S.; conditions at the U.S. - Mexico border; and the particular forms of violence that Indigenous peoples and youth are experiencing. Dr. Giovanni B’atz' (K’iche’-Maya) has worked with Maya communities in Guatemala and in the United States. His research has focused on extractive megaprojects and their impact on Indigenous communities in Guatemala.
